The University Press of Kentucky has a dual mission—the publication of academic books of high scholarly merit in a variety of fields and the publication of significant books about the history and culture of Kentucky, the Ohio Valley region, the Upper South, and Appalachia. The Press is the statewide nonprofit scholarly publisher for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, operating under the University of Kentucky Libraries and serving all Kentucky state-sponsored institutions of higher learning as well as five private colleges and Kentucky's two major historical societies.

The University Press of Kentucky has launched the New Poetry and Prose series in conjunction with Centre College to showcase the very best of contemporary poetry and fiction. The editors look for manuscripts that exhibit a profound attention to language, strong imagination, formal inventiveness, and awareness of one's literary roots.

Submissions for books of poetry or fiction (novels, short story collections, etc.) must be submitted between March 15th and May 1st of each year. Once the submission period closes, the series editor will review all submissions. Notice of acceptance occurs the first week of June. All authors who choose to submit to the series will be notified at this point in the process.

Please address all submissions and any queries to the editor of the New Poetry and Prose series at: Please submit full manuscripts only—proposals will not be considered.
